The Brief |
| This busy New York based online shop had been running version 3 of X-cart for sometime so it was time for an upgrade to both the software and the design to give it something a bit stonger and modern to help reassure customers. |
The Work - Step 1
| After manually updating the database to fit X-cart version 4, the new shop was installed and the old skin and mods integrated. |
The Work - Step 2
| When there are so many templates available to build websites, these are often the quickest way to "skin" a site. However, there is very little choice at the quality end of the market for X-Cart skins. So we widened our search and found an OS_Commerce skin we liked. Of course integrating it was a much bigger job, but shows that you don't have to limit your design to fit x-cart, but you can start with a blank canvas and make x-cart fit your design. Don't let X-cart be the tail wagging the dog. |

Added extras
On a standard X-cart the login and customer account sections are boxes in the navigation column. On this site, these have been replaced by text links on the very top nav, but the functionality is retained.
Another unique feature on this site can be seen on the Featured Products on the home page. Unlike standard x-carts, the pricing floats over the image. (this feature works better on certain product images than others - none the less is a neat bit of code!) |

The shop continues to grow in terms of customers and orders with an improvement in turning visitors into customers.
